Sustainability is important to us. We make a contribution to climate protection for all emissions caused by our operations and thereby support recognized and effective climate protection projects. This also applies to the greenhouse gas emissions of all products purchased by our private customers.
An important part of the Vergani culture is defined by thinking in generations. As a family business, we only want to be successful if we do not do so at the expense of resources that form the foundation of our work.
Wine is a natural product that is exposed to climate change. The rise in temperature and the fluctuations in weather pose immense challenges for our producers.
Even though Vergani is only a small piece of the puzzle in this regard, we still want to show our colors as a pioneer in the wine trade. As a company, as a family, as people.
Vergani actively supports climate protection from producers to consumers.
The balance sheet takes into account all greenhouse gases that are generated from the work of the producer in the vineyard to the delivery of your order to your home. We support climate protection projects that reduce and avoid emissions. This means that you can enjoy wines, grappas, olive oils, and simply all Vergani products sustainably.
Who is our partner myclimate?
myclimate is a non-profit foundation that was founded in 2002. The international initiative with Swiss roots is one of the world's quality leaders in voluntary climate protection measures. Since its founding, around 200 different climate protection projects have been pursued in over 46 different countries. Emissions are reduced locally by replacing fossil energy sources with renewable energies, implementing local reforestation measures with small farmers and implementing energy-efficient technologies.
Which projects does Vergani support?
Vergani supports various projects in developing and emerging countries. The projects meet the highest standards, such as Gold Standard in the energy sector or Plan Vivo or VCS in the land use sector, and contribute to the UN's SDGs. In this way, myclimate projects not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also contribute to social, ecological and economic development in the region.
For example, we contribute to the project "Biogas for rural households in India" , which produces organic fertilizer as a byproduct for a better harvest. In wine growing, too, soil quality is fundamentally important for a good harvest. Find out more about the project here .
Clean Drinking Water for Schools in Uganda
"Clean drinking water for schools through filter systems in Uganda" is another climate protection project that is supported by our contribution. New technologies for drinking water purification reduce the consumption of non-renewable firewood and charcoal, reduce CO₂ emissions and at the same time have a positive effect on the living conditions and health of thousands of people. What is Vergani doing to reduce its footprint?
Vergani's defined goal is to emit as few greenhouse gases as possible. For this reason, climate protection financing is based on the reduction of CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases in operations. myclimate is a competent and credible partner for this and we look forward to future projects.
Which initiatives we have already implemented:
- Our new large warehouse has been equipped with solar panels. This allows us to generate electricity beyond our needs, which we can feed back into the community.
- Wherever possible, we try to avoid plastic. We are now using 100% recyclable paper bags. These are made from plant-based fibers and are therefore environmentally friendly and easily degradable.
- Our shipping boxes are made from 100% recycled material. Three quarters of them are made from waste paper. The remaining raw material is fiber obtained from natural, sustainable forestry. Even the glue made from corn and wheat starch is biodegradable.
- The inside of the shipping boxes is made of corrugated cardboard. The used corrugated cardboard packaging is used by the paper mills as a raw material for paper production.
- Natural corks can be returned to us at the Enoteca.
- When printing materials, we make sure to use mineral oil-free printing inks.
- Since 2020, we have greatly expanded our range of organic and Demeter certified wines with the Vergani Linea Verde. Even if it does not directly imply that sustainable vinification results in a lower greenhouse gas footprint, the protection of nature and resources is at the forefront of both approaches. This discourse is important to us and we want to continue it in the future.
"We are delighted that Vergani has decided to work with myclimate to finance climate protection for greenhouse gas emissions. This means they are taking on a pioneering role in the wine trade."
